NOVEMBER 2021 WINE TASTING.
30 attended the wine tasting on Saturday, November 27th in the main restaurant at Kamares; Olvia Haggipavlou, owner of the Olympus winery in Omodos brought along 10 wines including Commanderia, and Emva cream which used be called sherry which is now classified as fortified wine. Olympus winery is the oldest winery in Cyprus starting in 1844 and Olvia is the 6th generation. Accompanying the wines six types of finger food were provided.

Wine tasting by Lazarou winery - Saturday, June 5th
31 members and friends attended the presentation by Lazarou winery, a family run winery in Choulou. Marios Lazarou's great grandfather owned vineyards 100 years ago, then his father carried on the tradition.
We tasted a Xynisteri (Evelina) €6, a rose (Marlen) €7, and two reds (Rafael and Ismini) €6 - the wines are named after his family.

NOVEMBER 2020 WINE TASTING.
33 members and friends came along to the Mystes wine tasting last night. We were fortunate to have the tasting the day before lockdown and was an excellent evening with Melitzia excelling themselves with the meze of salad, dips and bread; vegetable kebabs, chicken kebabs, kleftiko, beef stifado, lentils, beans, chickpeas, cous cous, chips, cake and fruit.
Loucas from Mystes winery brought along his 3 wines for tasting - Chardonnay, Shiraz rose and Maratheftiko which were well received. He is hoping to open his new winery in Archimandrita next month.

SEPTEMBER 2020 WINE TASTING.
33 members and guests attended the tasting of Bulgarian wines on Saturday, September 12th outside on the patio at the Kamares Club. Gery Nikolova who is a professional sommelier from Bulgaria, living in Polis, presented 6 wines - 3 white, 1 rose and 2 reds: -

NOVEMBER 27th WINE TASTING 2019
A great turnout on Wednesday, November 27th with 27 members and 8 guests enjoying the tasting of the South African Arabella wines. Takis and his daughter Andrea brought along 7 - 2 whites, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay; 1 rose, Pink Panacea; 3 reds, Shiraz, Merlot and Pinotage, and one sparkling white.
They are all €5 apart from the sparkling which is €6.50.
There will be no meeting in December, so a very Happy Christmas to you all wherever you will be. 2020 meetings will possibly start in March.

JUNE WINE TASTING 2019
22 members and 11 guests enjoyed a full day's outing on Saturday to Spilia and Farmakas; two contrasting wineries. Andreas, the owner of the tiny biological winery which is in his courtyard, gave us a talk about his village and his winery; his wines have no sulphites (no headaches!) and he also had liquers and herbal teas and more. His wife, Flora had made some food for the group and fresh lemonade. Another Andreas who is head of the village also welcomed us.

We then headed to Santa Irene winery in Farmakas, a large winery with a 400 seater restaurant, Ierambelos Fusion cuisine, where we enjoyed an excellent meze. Daniel, the owner gave us an entertaining talk and we tasted all the wines including a very good pomegranate wine.

MARCH 27th WINE TASTING 2019
28 members enjoyed 3 Mystes wines on March 27th - white Chardonnay (oaky), Shiraz rose (medium dry) and Maratheftiko (dry red). Loucas and his wife Dia have never given a presentation and were very nervous, but he was very informative and very passionate; it has been a family run business since 2013; they do not yet have their own winery but hope to have next year in Archimandrita, north of Kouklia. They use recycled paper for their labels and bottles from France and have won a bronze medal. They are quality wines and therefore not cheap ie

DECEMBER WINE TASTING 2018
21 members and 3 guests attended the last meeting of 2018. Theodoros from Makarounas winery in Letymbou brought 5 wines - 2 white, one rose and 2 red.
The winery is located in Letymbou village and they have their own vineyards around that area (about 150 hectares). It is a family winery and they are the only winery in Cyprus that makes wine exclusively from their own vineyards they can keep the quality of their grapes and wines very high.
The first wine we tasted was the “Aerides” which is a blend of Xynisteri (80%) and Chardonnay (20%). €7. Then their new Sauvignon Blanc. €10.
The rose, “Minthy”, is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Lefkada. €8.
The two reds were the “En archi” red wine which is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Syrah €7 and a new red, "Marathefliko", a single vineyard wine aged for 12 months in oak barrels. €15.
They have a “Morokanella” white wine which will be ready after Christmas as it is maturing.
To find the winery drive through Letymbou village with the Vineyard taverna on the left and Letymbou taverna on the right. Just down the road from here turn left (there is a sign for the winery) and they are just up the road on the right. They are open 10.30a.m.-4.30p.m. every day apart from Sunday but give Theodoros a call to check he is there.

14th NOVEMBER WINE TASTING 2018
19 members and 7 guests attended last night's Prosecco tasting. Andrea Rossi from Alla Spina made 2 cocktails, one with Elderflower and one with Aperol and we then tasted the sparkling rose and sparkling whites. Cost of bottles are €9 and €9.50 with 200ml at €3.
Last meeting of the year will be on Thursday, December 6th in the Palm Room at 6.30p.m., with Theodoros from Makarounas winery from Letymbou with some "nibbles" - €3 for members and €5 for guests.

19 Members and 12 guests enjoyed the wine tour on November 3rd at Antoniades Winery in Mandria http://www.antoniadeswinery.com and Oenou Yi (wine of the land) https://www.oenouyi.wine/winery in Omodos.
Marios Antoniades took us through his winery which he lives above – a family run winery. Michael, the guide from Oenou Yi explained all about the new winery which is huge and has amazing views from the terraces. They found some items when they were building and having asked an archaeological friend she believes there are some drainage elements (with the holes in) and what could be remnants of a mill of some kind and maybe a Pompeian style millstone too. There may be some irrigation elements there too. They are building cottages across the road and there will be a spa opening in March next year.

Hi all, 25 members and guests attended the tasting on September 19 – somehow we had cross wires and didn’t have the Prosecco tasting, even though I had been in contact in July with a confirmation e mail, so we had the same tasting by Alla Spina as we did in May although, as Tracy wore a Prosecco t-shirt she was given a bottle of the Undici Prosecco and a few of us had a tasting which was very good and only €7.50 per bottle. They supplied some aperitifs again and another great evening was had by all; a few members plus the guests hadn’t been to the previous tasting and enjoyed the wines.

For those who haven't been on a wine tour, we leave from the Kamares Club (around 9.00a.m.) and have pick ups on the Polis Road by To Tavernaki; my relatives will be staying at the Aloe Hotel and will have a pick up down there also. Lunch will be at the winery in Omodos. Our driver will be Dennis who is English.
JUNE WINE TASTING 2018
27 attended a fun Italian wine tasting (Alla Spina) on Wednesday, June13th with Andrea Rossi and Mike and Wilma Flett. They kindly brought some aperitifs which is traditional in Italy.
We tasted 7 wines - 3 white, 1 rose and 3 red and was a very relaxed evening as we could just help ourselves as they were in boxes. They also have Prosecco and I hope to arrange a tasting possibly in September.
There will be no meeting in July and August due to the heat and many people away.

JUNE WINE TASTING 2017
26 members and 2 guests had an enjoyable evening last night with Vassiliki, Panayotis and his brother from Lagria Winery in Salamiou. One white, 2 red and a rose were tasted along with a very popular dessert Sun Wine. Prices are €5 apart from the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon and Sun Wine which are €10.
It is a family run winery and is the first time they have presented their wines with their new labels; they chose local musical instruments ie violin, lute as, quote "wine goes with music" !
Will be having a break over the next couple of months and hope to arrange a wine tour in Sept/Oct time. Have a good Summer! Yamas!

APRIL WINE TASTING 2017
29 attended the tasting from Kolios winery; Marios, owner and his daughter Elena gave the presentation bringing their new white wine, Iris which is €7. Saint Fotios €5, Shiraz Merlot €9. Cornetto €5. Many have been to their winery but if not it is open Monday-Saturday and bookings necessary for the tour and meze €20 which includes some wine - 26724090/99479330 and of course Kolios butchers where their wines can be purchased.

A very enjoyable tasting was held on Thursday, December 8th; 3 whites and 3 reds were ‘blind’ tasted with the bottles covered. Wines ranged from €3.29 to €18 with the Road Trip Shiraz at the lowest price being one of the favourites !!!!. All the wines apart from that one (from Paps !!) were bought from the new Wine Workshop (between Stephanis and House of Tobacco 54 Neophytou Nicolaides Avenue); Hillar Hunt, the owner, suggested all the wines and all good choices as they were well received. The club put on a great spread of food also.

19 members, 3 guests and 7 new members attended a wine tasting on Thursday, November 3rd with Stefanos, the oenologist from Kamanterna winery who brought along a Xinisteri, Chardonnay, Shiraz rose, Cabernet Sauvignon and Maratheftiko and finally Commanderia (only €11 from the winery!).
Fun Christmas wine tasting is on December 8th along with canapes made by the Club; €3pp - guests €5pp.

An excellent evening of tasting on Wednesday, June 15th, of Ekfraseis (Expressions) Vassiliades winery from Chandria near Kyperounta; Christos, the owner came along to give his presentation of Xynisteri, Rose (won Silver medal 2016 in Thessalonki) and Red wine; also a lovely dessert wine (ice wine - grapes frozen on the vine) and Commanderia - Hillar Hunt, founder of Cyprus Food & Wine Club also came along and he likened the wines to Zambartas; wines are €8.50 each (from his winery) and dessert wine and Commanderia both €20. MAY WINE TOUR 2016
27 members and guests enjoyed a day out on Wednesday, May 11 visiting two wineries - Zambartas in Agios Amvrosios sampling five wines - they have just won 2 gold and 4 silver awards at the recent 9th Cyprus Wine Competition. The second winery was Vlassides in Koilani where 3 wines were tasted. Lunch was at Maria's taverna in the centre of Koilani village.

24 attended a successful wine tasting on April 27 with Thanasis from Kalamos winery in Amargeti; 7 wines plus his Commandaria were tasted - a dry and medium dry white €4; dry and medium sweet rose €4.50; dry red €4; Merlot €9; Maratheftiko €10. Commandaria 500 ml €12 and €18 for 750 ml. He also has a liqueur wine, zivinia and oak aged zivinia. Prices are from his winery - some supermarkets stock his wines.

19 members attended the meeting on Thursday, March 10th with Savvas from the new winery, Karrosis near Letymbou; his distributor, Chris, also attended who helped Angelos from Tsangarides and see how he has gone from strength to strength so I wish Savvas good luck. We tasted his white, rose (too young) and 3 reds - Merlot, Mataro and a Merlot/Shiraz - his reds were the best. The labelling is very good and he supplies Paps and Philippos at present from €5.80-€7.50 but from his winery is obviously cheaper. His winery is through Letymbou village and a narrow road to the right - his phone number is 99215133. As he lives in Emba he is able to deliver to the club.
Next meeting, hopefully April 28th with Wines of the World - to be confirmed.

There is a new winery in Letymbou! Savvas from Karrosis winery presented his wines at the wine tasting event at Mesogiaki Gonia Wine & Deli in the Mall from January 8-10. I spoke to Savvas and asked him if he would come and bring his wines for a tasting some time soon.
In addition, there will be a wine and cocktail bar opening above Sardine restaurant (the old Jade Palace/Spice House) in Coral Bay, mid February. Hillar Hunt from the Cyprus Food and Wine Club will be running this. I will forward more information when I receive some.

30 members and 3 guests enjoyed an entertaining fun wine tasting on Thursday, November 26th where we tasted 2 whites, 2 rose and 2 reds. All the wines were covered and they were asked to guess which were the cheapest and which the more expensive; 6 people guessed all correctly. Kamares Club catered with 7 different canapes; we also had a fun sing-a-long with Christmas songs.

37 members and guests enjoyed a full day on Wednesday, May 20th to Dafermou winery in Lefkara then Ktima Christoudia in Kato Drys finishing at Hadjiantonas winery for lunch.
2015 APRIL WINE TASTING
Yet again, Angelos from Tsangarides winery excelled himself presenting his organic wines on Thursday, April 2nd. He has 12 hectares and uses no chemicals/spray or chemical fertilizers. There are new EU regulations and a German company inspects his winery to make sure he is not using any chemicals.
We tasted Chardonnay and Rose - €7 per bottle or €80 for a case (12) and Mataro - €10 per bottle or 100 for a case. Another red will be ready before Xmas. All 3 organic wines were excellent. We also tasted his popular Xinisteri - €5 per bottle or €50 for a case.

2014 NOVEMBER WINE TOUR
34 members and guests enjoyed a great wine tour to Omodhos on November 12th, starting off at Mallia winery (Keo) and saw the only wine harvesting machine on the island – collecting red ones only as the white get damaged. It travels along and shakes the grapes into the machine (see photo). The second winery was Prophet Elias, named after the nearby church. Lunch was at Stou Kir Yianni in one of the alleyways off Omodhos square

31 members and 2 guests visited Constantinou winery in Pera Pedi and Tsiakkas winery in Pelendri tasting some excellent wines. Lunch was in Symposio taverna in Pelendri.
2014 APRIL WINE TOUR
On April 2nd, 25 members attended a tasting of wines from Greece, Pavlides, at Cava Oinou Gevsis close to Cytanet. Vasilikon winery should be opening its new bar area at the end of May, but no date given as yet.
